Computer science is the only field with company money, and most of it has stopped
No other subject has Google, Microsoft, Meta and IBM running their own fellowships. We checked all four on their own pages. One is paused, one has not updated since 2023, one changed its name, and one does not list Pakistan as an eligible region.

Vanier: your university’s deadline is weeks before the one you will read about
Aggregator sites print the national deadline, which falls at the end of October. You cannot use it. Canadian universities nominate their own candidates, and each sets an internal deadline around mid-September, six weeks earlier. If Vanier interests you, write to the graduate funding office at your target university now and ask for their date.
National schemes
Each row links to the guide that covers that scheme in full. Where a scheme sets no single date, this page says what decides yours.
| Guide | Route | Country | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vanier CGS | PhD only, CAD 50,000 a year | Canada | Set by your university, around mid-September. Ask them. |
| Gates Cambridge | Cambridge computer science, master’s and PhD | United Kingdom | Varies by course. The US round and the international round run separately. |
| GKS Korea | Computer science and engineering | South Korea | Depends on your track. Embassy and university routes differ. |
| Erasmus Mundus | Informatics and data science joint masters | Europe | Varies by joint programme, usually autumn to January. |
| DAAD Scholarship | Computer science master’s and PhD | Germany | Varies by programme. Each DAAD course sets its own date. |
| MEXT Scholarship | Information science and engineering | Japan | Varies by embassy. The university track runs separately. |
| CSC China Scholarship | Computer science at 280+ universities | China | Varies by university and by Chinese embassy. |
Company fellowships, and what we found on their own pages
These exist in computer science and almost nowhere else. They are also the ones scholarship sites keep listing long after the company stops running them.
| Programme | What it pays | Who it takes | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBM PhD Fellowship | US$40,000 in the US, less elsewhere | By nomination | IBM’s own page says the 2026-2027 programme is paused. |
| Meta Fellowship | US$42,000 a year plus full tuition | Worldwide | Meta’s page still shows the 2023 cohort. Nothing since. |
| Microsoft Research Fellowship | US$47,000 US and Canada, US$27,000 Europe, US$17,000 elsewhere | Listed regions only | Pakistan is not on the eligible region list. Paid to the institution, not to you. |
| Generation Google Scholarship | US$2,500 to US$10,000, by region | Four regions | Running. This is what the Women Techmakers Scholars Program became. |

Finding a PhD supervisor
Vanier and most PhD routes need a supervisor before you can apply at all.
Strategy
Why we list the paused ones. Leaving IBM and Meta off this page would be tidier, and it would send you to other sites that still advertise them as open. Knowing a programme has stopped saves you more time than a list of ones that are running. We re-check all four every quarter, and we will say so here the day any of them comes back.
