Ten schemes, and not one of them is for engineers
Every scheme here is a general national programme. You apply as an engineer but compete against lawyers, doctors and economists for the same seats. That makes engineering the most crowded field on this site, and it changes what a winning application has to do.

The Fulbright Science and Technology Award has not run since 2013
Scholarship sites still list it, and we did too. The US State Department’s own page says recruitment “has been suspended for the 2013-2014 program year”, and nothing has replaced it since. Engineers applying to the United States should use the Fulbright Foreign Student Program instead, which is the row in the table below.
The ten schemes
Each row links to the guide that covers that scheme in full. Where a scheme sets no single date, this page says what decides yours instead of printing a figure that would be wrong for most readers.
| Guide | Engineering route | Country | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chevening Scholarship | One-year master’s, any engineering course | United Kingdom | Opens in August, closes in early October. |
| Gates Cambridge | Cambridge engineering, master’s and PhD | United Kingdom | Varies by course. The US round and the international round run separately. |
| Australia Awards | Engineering tied to development priorities | Australia | 30 Apr |
| Fulbright Foreign Student Program | Master’s and PhD, the live US route | United States | Set by the Fulbright commission in your own country. |
| Türkiye Burslari | Engineering at Turkish universities, no IELTS | Turkey | One annual window early in the year. |
| GKS Korea | Engineering and technology | South Korea | Depends on your track. The embassy and university routes run on different calendars. |
| Erasmus Mundus | Engineering joint masters across two or three countries | Europe | Varies by joint programme, usually autumn to January. |
| DAAD Scholarship | Engineering master’s and PhD | Germany | Varies by programme. Each DAAD course sets its own date. |
| MEXT Scholarship | Engineering, including the research track | Japan | Varies by embassy. The university track runs separately. |
| CSC China Scholarship | Engineering at 280+ universities | China | Varies by university and by Chinese embassy. |

Documents
Why the crowding matters. A panel reading your file has no engineering specialist on it in most of these schemes. Your proposal has to make a non-engineer understand what problem you will solve and who it helps, in the first paragraph. Technical depth belongs later in the document, not at the top. Dates here come from each funder’s own page, and you should still confirm before you apply.
