Veterinary & One Health Scholarships

The famous One Health master’s is closed. The one that pays €49,000 is open.

ITM Antwerp’s Global One Health programme carries the words “Closed for applications” on its own page, and rules out any intake in 2028 while the curriculum is revised. Meanwhile Erasmus Mundus IDOH is recruiting for 2027 with applications in December and January, and its own signed student agreements show what the scholarship is really worth.

What is actually open

One Erasmus Mundus route, and two Antwerp master’s that are not the one everybody searches for.

All three take applications in the next twelve weeks.

If you came here searching for Global One Health, the IDOH row is where you should be reading. It covers the same ground, it runs on Erasmus Mundus money rather than institutional scholarships, and it is recruiting now. Our wider Erasmus Mundus scholarships page explains how that funding model works, and GroundwatCH shows how differently two programmes on the same model can set their deadlines.

What the IDOH scholarship is actually worth

From IDOH’s own signed student agreements, which is why these figures are more specific than anything else published here.

Figures from the 2023–25 intake agreements. Confirm the 2027 numbers with the consortium.
ItemAmountWho gets it
Monthly allowance€1,000 a month for 24 months, so €24,000Every scholarship holder
Participation costs€9,000 a year covered and deducted at source, so €18,000Every scholarship holder
Travel allowance€3,000 a year, so €6,000Students 4,000 km or more from Tours. Pakistan qualifies.
Installation allowance€1,000Partner Country students only, which includes Pakistan
Rough totalAbout €49,000 over two yearsA Pakistani student on the full award

The two rows that matter most to a Pakistani reader are the ones nobody mentions. Pakistan sits well beyond 4,000 km from Tours, so the top travel band applies, and the installation allowance exists for Partner Country students alone. Together those lines are worth €7,000, and they exist because arriving in France from Pakistan costs real money before any teaching begins.

Without the scholarship, a Partner Country student pays €9,000 a year, which is €18,000 across the degree, while Programme Country students pay €4,500 a year. So the award is not a discount on an affordable degree. It is the difference between going and not going.

Know what sits outside the package too. The agreement covers teaching, insurance, welcome days, the summer school, the workshop, and bench fees or registration during the internship where they apply. It does not cover travel to the workshop, or anything it does not name, which includes your living costs beyond the monthly allowance.

Then there is the clause worth reading twice. For the fourth-semester internship, the consortium pays bench fees or registration for a maximum of eight students per intake, capped at €25,200, allocated first come, first served. If your internship host charges a bench fee and you are the ninth student to ask, the agreement does not say who pays. Settle your placement early rather than in your second year, and ask the consortium in writing where you stand on that list.

Closed, and closed for longer than people think

The programme that pulls almost all the search traffic in this field.

Verified against ITM’s own course page and its full course listing.
ProgrammeWhat the funder’s own page saysStatus
MSc Global One Health, formerly MSc Tropical Animal HealthA two-year blended master’s worth 60 ECTS, run with the University of Pretoria. Fees at the time of checking were €5,775 for EEA students and €11,745 for non-EEA students, so a scholarship was always the only realistic route for most Pakistani applicants.“Closed for applications”, and no intake in 2028 while the curriculum is revised. Both editions sit closed in ITM’s own listing. Future intakes promised without a date.

How to check whether a programme is really open

This is the skill that would have saved every page that still lists Global One Health as available.

Open the funder’s own course page rather than a scholarship blog, and look for a status line. ITM prints “Closed for applications” at the top of the course, plainly, where anybody could read it. Many universities print “applications open” with the dates beside it, equally plainly.

Then open the institution’s full course listing, which is the step almost nobody takes. ITM publishes every course with its status in one table, and that table is how we confirmed that both editions sit closed rather than just the current one. A single course page can be stale. A listing that marks every edition closed is a decision, not an oversight.

Finally, set yourself a reminder rather than assuming. ITM promises future intakes without naming a date, so mid-2027 is the right time to look again at Global One Health. That is a note in your calendar, not a plan you build a year around.

Questions readers ask about One Health funding

The five that arrive most often.

Is ITM’s Global One Health master’s still available?

No. ITM’s own course page says closed for applications, and the same page rules out any intake in 2028 because the curriculum is under revision. Its full course listing shows both editions closed. Any site telling you to apply for it is working from old information.

So what should I apply for instead?

Erasmus Mundus IDOH, which covers the same territory and is recruiting now for 2027–2029. If you specifically want Antwerp, ITM has two other master’s open, Public Health and Tropical Medicine, both closing 15 January 2027. Those are real programmes with real deadlines, unlike the one most lists send you to.

How much does IDOH actually pay?

About €49,000 over two years for a Pakistani student on the full award: €1,000 a month for 24 months, €9,000 a year in participation costs, €3,000 a year in travel and a €1,000 installation allowance. Those figures come from IDOH’s own signed student agreements for the 2023–25 intake, so confirm the 2027 numbers with the consortium before you budget.

Why should I apply in December rather than January?

Because of the internship bench fees. The consortium covers them for a maximum of eight students per intake, first come first served. Beyond that number the agreement is silent about who pays. Early files also tend to be read more carefully everywhere, so the cost of waiting is real and the cost of applying early is nothing.

My IELTS is 6.5 overall. Is that enough?

Check the per-module minimum, not the overall band. An overall 6.5 with a 5.5 in writing fails this application, and that specific combination is common. If you need to retest, booking in October still leaves time for a January deadline.

Documents

Request your transcripts and grading-scale explanation in November, not December. Pakistani universities are slow to issue the grading scale and European admissions offices require it to read your marks, so that one document decides whether you can submit in the first week of the window rather than the last. Everything on this page needs confirming with the consortium directly, because IDOH’s figures come from an earlier intake’s agreements and the 2027 requirements, deadline and fee may all have moved. Six weeks is enough time to get an answer, which is exactly why this is the week to write and ask.
