Humber Scholarships for International Students

Humber Polytechnic international scholarships from CAD 1,000 to CAD 4,000, most applied automatically on admission

Two things before the list, because both change what you do next. If you are considering applying for Humber international scholarships, keep these points in mind.

Humber College is now Humber Polytechnic. The rename happened and most listing sites have not caught up. Search for either name and you reach the same institution.

None of these scholarships is fully funded, whatever you have read. The largest entrance award at Humber is CAD 4,000. Most sit between CAD 1,000 and CAD 2,000, and several arrive as a reduction in your tuition rather than as money. Any site filing Humber under “fully funded scholarships in Canada” is describing something that does not exist, and students who believe it land in Toronto short of rent.

That sounds discouraging. It is not. Humber’s awards are real, they require almost no work, and many apply automatically the moment you accept an offer. You simply need to plan your finances around the true number rather than the advertised one.

Every international award, with its real value

Humber Polytechnic international awards compared by value and whether an application is required

President’s International Entrance Award CAD 2,000. A bursary for international students applying from outside Canada, without a study permit from a designated learning institution, entering an eligible full-time programme. It applies automatically once you meet t

he conditions. The deadlines run per intake: 31 October for a January start, 13 February for a May start, and 10 July for a September start. These dates follow the admission cycle, so the one that matters is the deadline for your own intake.

International Entrance Scholarships CAD 2,000.

Awarded as a reduction in tuition across your first two semesters, for new diploma and advanced diploma students with a high admission GPA. Automatic.

International Onshore Scholarship CAD 1,000.

For international applicants already living in Canada and studying full time. Automatic, and offered across the Winter, Summer and Fall intakes.

Bachelor’s Degree Scholarships CAD 1,500 to CAD 4,000.

For high school graduates entering a degree directly rather than transferring in. The value rises with your admission GPA, and this is the largest award in the set. Automatic.

Bachelor’s Degree Scholarships for EAP graduates CAD 1,500.

For students who finish Humber’s English for Academic Purposes at Level 8 with a GPA of 80 per cent or higher and move into a degree. Automatic.

Degree Transfer Scholarships CAD 1,500 to CAD 2,500.

For students arriving with a college certificate or diploma and a GPA of 80 per cent or more. Automatic.

Language Cert University and College Pathways Scholarship: CAD 1,000.

For international students in preparatory English holding a conditional acceptance. This one needs an application.

Barbados Canada Foundation Scholarships: CAD 4,000 a year.

For young people of Barbadian heritage. Application required.

In-course awards: CAD 250 to CAD 500.

Three small awards recognize strong EAP and TESL graduates once they are studying: the Academic Excellence Award in English for Academic Purposes at CAD 250, the EAP International Student Diploma Pathway Award at CAD 500, and the Academic Excellence Award in Teaching English as a Second Language at CAD 500. Faculty members nominate recipients, and notifications go out in November. Nothing to apply for, and nothing to plan around.

What this means for your budget

Add the realistic case. A strong international student entering a Humber degree from high school might receive a CAD 4,000 Bachelor’s Degree Scholarship. A student entering a diploma might receive the CAD 2,000 International Entrance Scholarship and, if applying from overseas in time, the CAD 2,000 President’s Award.

Against Toronto’s tuition and living costs, that covers a meaningful slice of one year and nothing beyond it. Humber publishes tuition per programme rather than as a single figure, so open your own programme page and read the number there before you budget anything.

Plan for the full cost and treat the award as a reduction, never as a funding plan. Students who reverse that order are the ones working illegal hours by November.

How to actually get these

Because most awards apply automatically, the usual scholarship advice does not help here. Three things do.

Apply early in your intake cycle. The President’s Award deadlines sit well before the intake itself, 10 July for a September start, for instance. Late applicants lose an award they qualified for on merit.

Protect your admission GPA. Three of these awards scale with it, and the degree scholarships pay more at higher grades. Your final-year results decide the amount.

Apply for the two that need applications, if they fit you. The Language Cert pathway scholarship and the Barbados Canada Foundation awards are the only ones requiring action. Everything else follows from your admission file.

If you are also applying to universities, the application effort sits there rather than here. Our guides to the UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award and the Calgary international entrance scholarships cover awards worth CAD 20,000 and upward, and both have deadlines in November and December.

The rule that matters more than any scholarship

PGWP field of study requirement — diploma and certificate graduates must meet it, bachelor's degree graduates do not

Most students come to Humber for a path that ends in work and, often, in permanent residence. Canada changed the rules underneath that path, and almost nobody writing about Humber scholarships mentions it.

Since 1 November 2024, graduates of programmes below bachelor’s level diplomas, advanced diplomas and certificates  must meet the field of study requirement to qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Your programme’s CIP code must appear on the government’s list of eligible fields when you submit either your study permit application or your PGWP application. If it does not appear, you graduate without a work permit.

Graduates of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree are exempt from this requirement entirely. So are students who applied for a study permit or PGWP before 1 November 2024, and graduates of eligible flight schools.

Read that difference again, because it is the single most consequential fact on this page. At Humber you can study a two-year diploma or a four-year bachelor’s degree. The diploma carries a field-of-study condition on your work permit. The degree does not.

One piece of good news for planning: the government has stated that no fields will be added to or removed from the eligible list during 2026, so a CIP code that qualifies today should still qualify through that period.

What to do with this:

Before you accept any offer, check your exact programme’s CIP code against the current eligible list on the IRCC website. Not the programme name, the code. Two programmes with similar names can sit on opposite sides of the line.

Treat the CAD 2,000 award as secondary.

A diploma whose field does not qualify costs you the work permit, which outweighs every scholarship discussed here.

We point students to the government’s own page rather than to any agent’s summary, because this rule has changed more than once and agents update slowly. The authority is IRCC, and nobody else.

Frequently asked questions

Does Humber offer fully funded scholarships?

No. The largest entrance award is CAD 4,000 and most range from CAD 1,000 to CAD 2,000. Any listing describing Humber as fully funded is wrong.

Do I need to apply for the Humber international scholarships?

For most of them, no. The President’s International Entrance Award, the International Entrance Scholarships, the Onshore Scholarship and the degree and transfer scholarships all apply automatically once you meet the conditions. Only the Language Cert pathway scholarship and the Barbados Canada Foundation awards require an application.

What is the deadline?

The President’s Award follows the intake: 31 October for January, 13 February for May, and 10 July for September. The automatic awards follow your admission timeline rather than a separate date.

Which award pays the most?

The Bachelor’s Degree Scholarships, at CAD 1,500 to CAD 4,000 depending on your admission GPA, and the Barbados Canada Foundation Scholarships at CAD 4,000 a year for eligible applicants.

I already live in Canada. Which one applies to me?

The International Onshore Scholarship, worth CAD 1,000, covers international applicants already in Canada. The President’s Award does not, since it requires applying from outside Canada.

Is Humber a university?

Humber is a polytechnic. It awards diplomas, advanced diplomas, bachelor’s degrees and postgraduate certificates. The degree programmes matter for the PGWP rule above.

Will a Humber diploma get me a work permit?

Only if your programme’s field of study appears on the government’s eligible CIP code list at the time you apply. Check your specific programme code on the IRCC website before accepting an offer. A Humber bachelor’s degree carries no such condition.

Can I combine two awards?

Students sometimes hold more than one, for example an entrance scholarship alongside the President’s Award, where the conditions of each are met separately. Humber confirms what you hold in your offer and fee statement, so read it rather than assuming.

Do these awards renew?

The entrance awards here apply to entry rather than to every year. Budget for the full cost of later years without them.

What to do this week

Three steps, in order. Open your own programme page on Humber’s site and read its actual tuition figure, because no single number covers every programme. Check your programme’s CIP code against IRCC’s eligible field of study list if you are considering a diploma or certificate. Then apply well before your intake’s President’s Award deadline, since that award needs nothing from you except arriving on time.

If your grades are strong and you want awards an order of magnitude larger, read our guides to the Calgary international entrance scholarships, worth CAD 20,000 and renewable, and the UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award, which covers tuition and living costs for students with significant financial need. Our free tools help you prepare those applications, and they cost nothing.

We checked every figure in this guide against Humber Polytechnic’s own scholarships page and the Government of Canada’s PGWP rules in October 2026. Award values and immigration rules both change  confirm your programme’s tuition on Humber’s site and your CIP code on the IRCC website before you accept an offer. If you find something here that no longer matches, write to us at scholarwingofficial@gmail.com and we will correct it.
