Manchester Global Futures Scholarship
The Manchester Global Futures Scholarship Is a Tuition Discount — Not a Full Scholarship
This distinction matters and most guides get it wrong. Every description of the University of Manchester Global Futures Scholarship that uses the words “fully funded” is inaccurate. Understanding what this scholarship actually provides changes how you plan your finances.
Backed by a £6+ million fund, over 350 competitive merit-based tuition fee discounts are available for outstanding self-funded applicants entering full-time undergraduate or postgraduate Master’s degree programs in September 2027.
Tuition fee discounts — not full scholarships. The awards are:
- Africa Master’s 2027: £19,000 off your published overseas tuition fee
- Africa Undergraduate 2027: £36,000 total (£12,000/year × 3 years, conditional on 60% grade)
- South Asia (Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka) Master’s: approximately £10,000 off tuition
- Southeast Asia Master’s: approximately £10,000 off tuition
There is no monthly stipend, there is no accommodation funding and there is no airfare. There is no living allowance. The award is deducted directly from your tuition fee and you pay the remaining balance yourself.
For African countries with the £19,000 award: Manchester’s overseas Master’s tuition fees typically range from £25,000-35,000. A £19,000 discount is significant but a balance of £6,000-16,000 plus accommodation and living costs in Manchester (approximately £1,200-1,500/month) remain your responsibility.
This is still a genuinely valuable award. But you must plan your finances around the full picture, not an inflated description.
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 350 merit-based scholarships to prospective international students. The total value of scholarships offered will be more than £6 million, and awards are open to students applying for undergraduate and master’s degrees.
The 2027 cycle is now open. Master’s deadline: April 20, 2027. Undergraduate deadline: April 8, 2027. Results for Master’s: May 12, 2027.

Application Process — Form Comes to You
The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders. You’ll be considered based on academic merit and the quality of your application.
This is the most important thing to understand about the process: you do not search for or find a scholarship application form. Manchester emails it to you automatically once you hold an eligible offer.
Step-by-Step:
Step 1: Apply to Manchester for your chosen program Visit manchester.ac.uk and apply for a Master’s (or undergraduate) program in your field. This is a standard university application transcripts, degree certificates, personal statement, references.
Step 2: Receive your offer When Manchester makes you a conditional or unconditional offer, you automatically enter the pool of eligible scholarship applicants (if you meet domicile and other criteria).
3: Receive scholarship application form via email The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders from February onwards. Check your email regularly after receiving your Manchester offer.
4: Complete and submit the form The form asks about your academic background and has an essay/statement component, the “quality of your online application form” is one selection criterion.
Step 5: Submit before deadline
- Master’s 2027: April 20, 2027
- Undergraduate 2027: April 8, 2027
Step 6: Await results Successful Master’s candidates will be officially notified of decisions by May 12, 2027.
Balance criteria:
We’ll try to achieve a balance by gender, domicile and course in the allocation of the awards. Manchester actively manages diversity in scholarship allocation gender balance and course diversity are considered alongside merit.

Financial Planning — The Full Picture
Understanding what the scholarship covers and what it doesn’t is essential for financial planning.
What the scholarship provides:
£19,000 (Africa Master’s) or £10,000 (South Asia Master’s) deducted directly from tuition fees.
What you still need:
- Remaining tuition: Manchester overseas Master’s fees are typically £25,000-35,000. After £19,000 deduction: £6,000-16,000 remaining. (South Asia: After £10,000 deduction: £15,000-25,000 remaining.)
- Accommodation in Manchester: £600-900/month
- Food and daily expenses: £400-600/month
- Transport: £80-150/month
- Books and materials: £500-1,000/year
- UK visa and IHS: £500-1,500 (not covered)
Total estimated remaining cost (Africa Master’s with £19,000 award): approximately £18,000-28,000 for the year (remaining tuition + living costs).
The scholarship is meaningful, but it is not a full funding solution. Students who accept this award should have a clear plan for the remaining costs.
